Development of the Site "Neues Wohnen an der Acher", Achern
In 2015, the Karl Group acquired the glassworks site in Achern from the American company O.I. Glasspack and took over the redevelopment of the former factory site as a residential and mixed-use area. The approximately 11-hectare site is located in the center of Achern near the town center.
The area connects to the north to the B 3 and the Jahnstraße/station junction and to the southwest and east to Fautenbacher Straße. The existing junction connections continue to be used; the Fautenbacher Straße junction was newly constructed. Böhringer Straße was planned with a road width of 7.00 m with one-sided longitudinal parking spaces, which were interrupted by tree beds as roadside greenery. Böhringer Straße was connected to Fautenbacher Straße with a new junction. The second junction on Fautenbacher Straße was planned in the area of Glashüttenstraße. The planned two residential streets Gemengeweg and Glashüttenstraße served the internal neighborhood development. They were led from Böhringer Straße in the north to Glasmacher Straße in the south. Along the Acher, a footpath and cycle path was planned as a network connection to Fautenbacher Straße and the existing footpath and cycle path along the B 3. Two barrier-free bus stops were planned in the area, which are connected to the public transport network.
The planning area was drained using a separate system; the drainage of the traffic facilities also took place via the planned rainwater sewer system. The wastewater was discharged separately via wastewater sewers with a connection to the combined water collector in the Acher area. The existing outlets into the Acher with a maximum discharge volume of 626 l/s and the North rainwater collector for rainwater discharge were to continue to be used. Rainwater retention was not required. Two retention swales were created for flood protection of the adjacent Acher to the area.
