"Steinäcker East" Industrial Estate – Junction Connection to the L1180
The municipality of Friolzheim planned and implemented the development of the 2.0 ha industrial area "Steinäcker Ost" via a junction connection to the existing state road L1180 Leonberger Straße. For this purpose, the state road L1180 was widened on one side and a left-turn lane type LA2 according to RAL was constructed. The planning was coordinated in advance with the Karlsruhe Regional Council and the Enzkreis District Office. The new connection was to be made at the level of the existing junction of the existing farm track. This was built over as a result of the planned development and used as a new commercial area access road.
The junction connection was planned with a teardrop solution and the existing crossing aid on the L1180 was retained. The access road was built for use as a commercial area access road with trucks and articulated lorries with turning loop. The farm track south of the planning area had to remain accessible for fire-fighting vehicles and agricultural vehicles and was connected to the existing path network via the new commercial access road.
In the commercial area, car parking spaces with footpath connection to the existing path network via a staircase were realized at the end of the access road. The existing combined cycle and footpath running south of the L1180 was, as in the existing state, led to the existing crossing aid and directed there to the north side of the L1180 towards Heimersheim. The technical design of the access road within the planned commercial area as well as the junction connection access road to state road L1180 with new left-turn lane and the relocation of the cycle and footpath as a result of the one-sided widening of the L1180 had to be planned.
