Urban Renewal Measures, Gerlingen

Eltinger Straße and Bildstraße are residential streets without a large amount of through traffic. The street space is characterized by a high degree of parked vehicles. Otherwise, roadways and footpaths are present in asphalt. The urban renewal measure provided the opportunity for a redesign of the traffic and open spaces. By deliberately creating public car parking spaces, it was possible to limit the amount of parked cars and thus also gain space for the design of, for example, tree beds.

Such a decision (reduction of parking space) requires intensive citizen participation and open discussions with the residents.

After the Eltinger Straße and Bildstraße measure was completed in 2015, the urban renewal measure in Eltinger Straße and Meterstraße continued from 2016. The planning phase of the engineering planning began in February 2016 and was completed with the implementation planning in August 2016. During this time, close coordination took place with the city administration, the municipal council and the residents. Construction work began in March 2017 and was completed after a 9-month construction period in November. During these 9 months, not only surfaces were renewed, but damage to the sewage system was also eliminated and the water pipe including the house connection pipes was renewed in sections. Netze BW laid a gas pipeline and renewed the electricity supply.
