Redesign of Arsenalplatz Ludwigsburg

Spieth Ingenieure rely on smart solutions for the underground infrastructure

On 6 and 7 June 2025, the city of Ludwigsburg celebrated the opening of the redesigned Arsenalplatz with a varied programme. In addition to musical and artistic performances, the 8,000 square metre square was officially inaugurated. The new features include a fountain field, table tennis tables, a drinking fountain, a catering pavilion and 60 climate-resistant trees to ensure sustainable greenery.

The city of Ludwigsburg commissioned our engineering office to plan the underground infrastructure for this project. As part of these measures, new rainwater and wastewater sewers as well as various water pipes were designed to ensure the supply of a kiosk, the operation of the fountain field and the fairground connections. In addition, a 30 m³ rainwater cistern was integrated to enable efficient irrigation of the trees.

In future, Arsenalplatz will be a central meeting point for regular events such as concerts, music series and sports programmes. Lord Mayor Dr Matthias Knecht emphasised the importance of the square as an open meeting place and model project for sustainable urban design.

Information on the events on Arsenalplatz can be found on the Ludwigsburg city website.
