Urban renewal measures, Gerlingen

Project description

Eltinger Street and Bildstreet are residential streets without a large proportion of through traffic. The street space is characterised by a high degree of parked vehicles. Otherwise, there are asphalt roadways and pavements. The urban renewal measure gave the opportunity for a redesign of the traffic and open spaces. The targeted creation of public car parking spaces provided the opportunity to limit the number of parked cars and thus to gain space for the design of tree beds, for example.

Such a decision (reduction of parking space) requires intensive citizen participation and open discussions with the residents.

After the Eltinger Street and Bildstreet measure was completed in 2015, the urban renewal measure in Eltinger Street and Meterstreet continued from 2016. The planning phase of the engineering design began in February 2016 and was completed in August 2016 with the implementation planning. During this time, close coordination took place with the city administration, the municipal council and the residents. Construction began in March 2017 and was completed in November after a 9-month construction period. During these 9 months, not only were the surfaces renewed, but damage to the sewerage system was also repaired and the water pipes, including the house connection pipes, were renewed in sections. Netze BW laid a gas pipeline and renewed the electricity supply.
