Opening of the RS 14 high-speed cycle path
The Filstal region is setting a strong example for climate-friendly mobility: the RS 14 high-speed cycle path was officially opened on 5 June 2025. This pioneering infrastructure project connects Reichenbach and Ebersbach and makes it easier for cyclists to get around safely, quickly and comfortably.
Cyclists have been able to test the demonstration section between Reichenbach and Ebersbach since 2021. The construction section in Ebersbach, including a new bridge over the Fils, has now been successfully completed. The bridge enables a safe crossing and optimises the connection between the municipalities.
The project was realised in close cooperation between the state of Baden-Württemberg and the joint road construction office of the districts of Esslingen and Göppingen. The engineering office Fritz Spieth played a decisive role in the planning and construction supervision - particularly with regard to the sustainable planning of the cycle traffic areas. The existing flood protection was also included and taken into account in the planning.
The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking representatives from politics and administration, including Transport Minister Winfried Hermann, District President Susanne Bay and District Administrator Marcel Musolf and District Administrator Edgar Wolf. Together, they emphasised the importance of modern cycling infrastructure for an environmentally friendly and liveable future.
The completion of the RS 14 represents a further step towards sustainable mobility in the region. Future extensions of the cycle highway will further improve the connection and increase the attractiveness of cycling in the Filstal valley.
